If you are struggling to keep all aspects of planning your wedding under control and you are somewhat tech-savvy, this is the jackpot of all blog posts! We've created (what we feel to be) the 7 Most Important Areas of Planning that brides tend to overlook and apps that can help you ease some of your wedding woes.
TeamWork Makes the Dream Work
Unless you are an LDCBride, chances are your wedding binder is one helluva hot mess. You are trying to keep track of vendors, your budget, appointments, payments, checklist... Need we say more? These apps are bound to help you sort through some of the clutter.
Step one is creating a digital home for all the essential info. Shared folders in Google Drive, Dropbox, or other cloud-based storage service will work fine, but we like Evernote (free), since it's made to organize many different kinds of media and present it in one streamlined package.
The comprehensive note-taking app for iOS, Android, Windows Phone, Desktop, and web gets your partner involved in the planning process with collaborative notebooks that let you and yours save inspirational photos, important documents, and notes to the same place. With shared notebooks, you both have access to contracts with vendors, travel itineraries, guest lists, and mockups for invitations. Evernote syncs across all devices, which is helpful when meeting with photographers or venue managers.
If you are a visual person - Moleskin is going to rock your world. It works in conjunction with Evernote and syncs things you draw out when you're trying to bring an abstract idea to life. If you want a "whirly thing" on your invitation, then use Moleskine Journal (free) to illustrate what you're thinking of, and show it to your wedding planner or paper goods designer. The app takes on the classic Moleskine style and provides you with a complete artist tool set. Choose from different Moleskine styles like plain, ruled, grid, or storyboard.
Everyone involved in the whole shebang is just one tap away with Groups (free), a contacts management app. Create groups for your bridal party, all the vendors you've hired, out-of-town family, and more, and send a group text or group email right from the app.
You never know when inspiration will strike. It might be a succulent on a coworker's desk or a pattern on a tablecloth at your favorite café. Pinterest's mobile app is the best way to capture those items, whatever they may be. But be careful because you can easily become a pinnaholic...
Garden Answers Plant Identification
Have you ever wanted to easily identify a flower or plant? Now you can with the Garden Answers Plant Identification app. Just snap a picture, tap submit and instantly you will get the accurate identity of the plant and detailed information about it by garden and horticulture experts! The app's advanced image recognition technology can instantly identify over 20,000 plants.
Translation: you spot a flower at the greenhouse or even in a photo in a magazine and you want to add it to your bridal bouquet but have no idea what it is called. Bingo.
Say Yes to the Dress
If heading into a bridal boutique and trying on hundreds of dresses is the absolute last thing you want to ever do, why not do a little online shopping?
Azazie is an online fashion bridal boutique where you can shop for bridal gowns, bridesmaids dresses, and mother of the bride dresses all from the comfort of your home. Each dress is custom-made to fit your exact measurements and tailored for a perfect fit – all while being affordable. You can even create a "showroom" and invite people to help you select "the one."
Light in the Box
...(AND Score 6% Cash Back on Ebates!)...
Light in the Box is an online retailer for made-to-order bridal and bridesmaid dresses. Brides and bridesmaids alike can send in their exact measurements and select from thousands of styles and colors--and they’ll receive a dress sized to fit their figures perfectly, saving time and money (up to 80 percent) on alterations for the big day.
If you aren't using Ebates for your wedding purchases or even your day-to-day online buys - YOU ARE MISSING OUT HUUUUGE! Who doesn't like getting money put back in their pocket for shopping online? Yeah, nobody is the answer to that rhetorical question.
Stationary, Websites, and Guest Lists, OH MY!
When you're suffering from long-guest-list-itis, handling everyone's RSVPs can be a nightmare. Let technology do the work for you by setting up a Google submission form. There are even premade wedding RSVP templates ready to go. Just customize the fonts and color to suit your theme.
You can also set up your own wedding website (which you totally should because where else are you going to list your registry URL's - not on the invitation because that is considered tacky) through a site-creation portal like Wedding Jojo, Appy Couple, or Weduary, which all provide guest RSVP and management tools. Some wedding websites are free while others range from $14.95/month to $89/year.
Wedding Paper Divas
In most cases, your stationery will be the first step in introducing your wedding day style and theme to your guests. Wedding Paper Divas has free design consultation, photo upload, and unique personalization tools to ensure the perfect invitations, save the dates, thank you notes, and more. As a sister company to Shutterfly and Tiny Prints, WPD has mastered their stationary game.
This completely free (yay!) app takes the tediousness out of collecting guests' addresses for save-the-dates, invitations, and of course, thank you notes. Postable lets you create an address book where friends can fill in all of their information for you. (We Repeat: no work required on your end!) #WINNING Once that's done, you can select cards from stationery designers across the country (Rifle Paper Co. is among the mix) and, for $2 a pop, even have Postable address, stamp, and send out your cards for you—so you can focus on finding your dream dress.
Appy Couple allows couples to easily share their wedding day details with friends, family and guests all from a gorgeous website. For $28, this kick-ass app helps brides-to-be seamlessly create a personalized wedding app and website in just a few easy steps. Once you're done, you'll have an app and website that your family and friends can download for free. You can manage RSVPs (even entrée selections) and guests can share photos from the wedding and more. The best part? You can customize which guests see what event details (since not everyone will be invited to your bachelorette party).
Worried that your wedding guests will upload photos of your ceremony, dress, or reception before you're ready for the world to see them? Wedding Party collects and compiles your guests' photos into one mega photo album on a private website, which you can sift through before they're posted onto a social media platform. Guests are also allowed to caption photos and write kind wishes. Before the big day even happens, this app is a great way to keep everyone informed. Most importantly, you'll have these memories—including never-before-seen shots from your friend's and family's perspective—for years to come!
Setting up a wedding registry is one of the exciting things you and your fiancé(e) get to do while wedding planning. And who doesn't love to shop? The Zola app puts a new spin on the traditional wedding registry, allowing guests to buy you two experiences and services instead of just kitchen dishes.
Okay, so maybe you have enough salad spinners and glass vases. What about $$ for your honeymoon? Or your first home? The Honeyfund website and app allows users to create a honeymoon registry, or register for home down payments, charity gifts, etc.
I’m Leaving On A Jet Plane
In the midst of all that wedding planning, you don’t want to forget about the honeymoon! The TripAdvisor app and website allow you to check out different locales to pick the perfect destination, as well as look at thousands of user-generated reviews for hotels, restaurants, and must-see sights for when you’re there.
Have a Wedding Wire account? Simply link it to the app so all of your info is saved to your profile even when planning on the go. Look up over 200,000 local wedding vendors and read 2 million newlywed vendor reviews. You are able to mark vendors as favorites and create your own wedding team. You can even compare vendors. This is especially helpful as it contains all of your vendors’ contact information at your fingertips.
Extra Tips and Tricks:
Ebates literally GIVES you cash back when you shop online. Yes, you read that correctly. All you have to do is shop through Ebates at your favorite stores (or just install the plugin to tell you when you can get $$ back when you are already checking out of Target or Nordstrom). Then you score a check or Paypal payment at the end of every pay period. Oh, and if that wasn't reason enough to use it, both the app and Ebates website clue you in on 100's of retail coupon codes to use during checkout.
If you aren't already using coupon codes while doing online shopping then for lack of better words you are being straight up stupid. I said it. If you could save yourself $$ by doing a quick Google search for "Target coupon codes" or heading over to RetailMeNot and doing a search before you click "Place My Order" then you might as well throw $$ out your window.
